Chrissy Brand is on the Move!

Long-time City Daily Photo blogger, Facebooker and Instagramer Chrissy Brand is due to hit her 2000th post at Mancunian Wave on Monday, January 23.  She is also in the process of relocating from Manchester in north-west England to Hastings on the south coast. However, Chrissy will probably be in Manchester about a week each month, so she plans to keep Mancunian Wave going but on a less regular basis. Chrissy will also be starting a new CDP blog covering Hastings and the counties of East and West Sussex, called Chrissy By the Coast. Go take a look at her new adventures at the seaside, at https://chrissybythecoast.wordpress.com/!

In February 2017, Let's Love Life!

In mid-February we have Valentine's Day.  To get us in the mood, the February 1 monthly theme for City Daily Photo bloggers is "Loving Life."  What will you show?  A mother and her child?  Two children being silly?  A couple cuddling?  A friend enjoying a good belly laugh?  How about a grandmother and grandson on an amusement park ride?

There are so many ways to illustrate "Loving Life."  Let's see what you can do.  February 1 CDP theme day:  Loving Life.

A Group Effort for Eleven Years at Greenville Daily Photo

Denton and Connie Harryman started Greenville Daily Photo on December 16, 2005, to highlight their home town of Greenville, South Carolina.  While Denton and Connie are still the blog's publishers, other Greenville photographers often contribute.  In particular, Mike Nice has been posting most days in the past few years.  Thanks to all who have been keeping this lovely blog alive for eleven years.

January 2017 Theme: Photo of the Year

This young woman was cutting and bundling thatch in a field outside Johannesburg.  She heard me and looked around.  She gave me a quick shy smile then turned away to continue working.    The photograph appeared in a July 2016 post.

The theme for City Daily Photo bloggers on January 1, 2017, is "Photo of the Year."  Interpret it however you want.  The one you like best?  The one you got most comments on?  One you submitted to a contest?  The one that best represents your city?  However you pick it, please link your Photo of the Year to the City Daily Photo Theme Day portal on January 1.

We Have Some Tasty Themes in 2017!

So, how do you like this line-up for 2017's monthly theme days?

Every year we begin on January 1 with Photograph of the Year.  Review your 2016 posts and show us the one you like best, or your followers liked best, or best exemplifies the year in your city.  Then, on February 1, as Valentine's Day approaches?  Why, Loving Life, of course.  And, on March 1, you will need to stretch your creativity with Black and White in Color, an image that was really shot in color but looks like a black and white photograph.  Fun, right?  In some parts of the world, we have April showers, so on April 1 let's see how you interpret Wet.  Let's Eat on May 1.  And, since Nature is so often a photographer's favorite topic, let's see your best on June 1.

Motion is the theme for July 1.  On August 1, what will you select to illustrate Young at Heart?  We will all have fun on September 1, deciding on an image for Photographing the Photographer.  And . . . get ready . . . we break all taboos on October 1 when we fill our blogs with images illustrating Sensual.  Phew!  After that, let's shake it up with Rock 'n' Roll on November 1.  Then, let's greet the holiday season on December 1 with your best Gift images.

A year with a lot of photographic fun and some challenges?  Enjoy it.  Happy holidays.

For Eight Years an Alabama Belle Has Been Presenting Paris

Retired elementary school teacher Virginia Jones left Birmingham, Alabama, to visit Paris for the first time in March of 2007.  She was blown away.  Took lots of tourist pictures.  Around that time she became more serious about her photography.  When Virginia returned to Paris in November 2008, she did it with a photographer's eye and with the intention of sharing her love of Paris on a blog.  Paris Through My Lens launched on November 27, 2008.  A few days later Virginia showed us this photograph of Galeries Lafayette in the holiday season.  Nine subsequent trips have fueled her archives and kept the blog fresh.  And, as you read this, Virginia is wrapping up another two week Paris visit, gathering still more material for our enchantment.

Actually, it will probably be first on Facebook, or Twitter, or maybe you'll hear about it from the nice old guy next door. Whatever the case, if you have news to share, how about sharing it with us, so we can share it with everyone and actually make these pages useful?
